Camping in one of Canada’s most beautiful provinces should be on everyone’s Canadian bucket list!  There are lots of amazing campgrounds in PEI to enjoy this summer, whether it’s solo, as a couple, or a family!

I was shocked to learn how many people camp in PEI, from locals to visitors alike! It’s not hard to understand why – the stunning scenery, water views, access to ocean swimming, fishing, and water activities, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities to do at these campsites.

Update January 2023: Hurricane Fiona devastated a lot of Prince Edward Island’s beaches and shorelines. Please contact your preferred campground for an updated park status.

Camping in PEI National Park

Is there anything better than sleeping under the stars being lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of wind and waves? Prince Edward Island National Park offers a variety of camping options at two different campsites with access to trails and beaches, making it the perfect getaway for those looking to stay overnight.

Whether you choose to camp by tent, RV, oTENTiks, or Bunkies, there’s no shortage of camping options in PEI.

Cavendish Campground

Cavendish Campground is probably the most famous park in PEI, with over 200+ campsites and a huge beach, over 8 km of trails for hiking and cycling, a floating boardwalk, sand dunes, playground, and plenty of opportunity for wildlife viewing.

Here you’ll find showers, flush toilets, a laundromat, kitchen shelters, Wi-Fi and accessible features, allowing you to get away from it all while still having some modern conveniences

Campfires are allowed on select sites.

Cavendish Campground is the perfect location to explore Anne of Green Gables, Avonlea Village, and the Cavendish Boardwalk.

Stanhope Campground

Stanhope Campground offers over 100 sites in a scenic, forested, and quiet campsite located near the famous Covehead Harbour. There is access to a 10 km seaside trail, perfect for those morning strolls or cycling.

Stanhope Beach is lifeguarded in July and August and has an accessible ramp, an available beach wheelchair, and mobility mats.

Jacques Cartier Provincial Park

Located along the North Cape Coastal Drive, Jacques Cartier Provincial Park is close to Alberton, Tignish, and North Cape. It features a supervised swimming beach on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, accessible ramp, and floating wheelchair. 

Jacques Cartier is Europe’s first visitor who came ashore in the vicinity in 1534 who remarked this is the “fairest land ‘tis possible to see!”

There is playground equipment, park recreation programs, evening activities, kitchen shelter, Wi-Fi, and a laundromat.

Brudenell River Provincial Park

As eastern PEI’s largest provincial park, Brudenell River offers RV camping and wooded tent sites. There is access to a forested walking trail as well as a paved riverfront pathway, ideal for walking and cycling.

There is an outdoor heated pool, playground, kitchen shelter, washrooms, laundromat, and scheduled recreational activities June through August.

Cabot Beach Provincial Park

Cabot Beach Provincial Park is western PEI’s largest provincial park and offers recreation programs, a lifeguarded beach along Malpeque Bay, laundromat, playground, kitchen shelter, and Wi-Fi. 

Just a few minute’s drive from Cabot Beach is Thunder Cove Beach where you’ll find the magnificent Teacup Rock

Panmure Island Provincial Park

The stunning white sand beaches on Panmure Island make it one of the most popular Provincial Parks for camping in PEI! 

The drive itself to Panmure Island is flanked by the ocean on one side and the sheltered St. Marys bay on the other with sand dunes on either side, providing a secluded shoreline ideal for beach lovers! 

There is a licensed restaurant at the beach and lifeguard services along with a beach house with change rooms and showers, washrooms at the beach, kitchen shelter, and laundromat.

Northumberland Provincial Park

The campground at Northumberland Provincial Park features a variety of campsites plus cabins! There is access to a lifeguarded beach, clam digging, and bird watching and features a laundromat, playground, and kitchen shelter.

Northumberland Provincial Park campground is the closest campsite to the Wood Islands Ferry as well as Rossignal Estate Winery and numerous lighthouses along the Points East Coastal Drive!

Red Point Provincial Park

With shelters, firepits, playgrounds, laundromats, and sites designed for large RVs, Red Point Provincial Park is ideal for families with its recreational activities and lifeguarded beach.

Red Point Provincial Park is located near the town of Souris offering groceries, restaurants, gas, liquor store, tourist information centre, and a ferry to the Magdalen Islands. This campsite is also close to the Basin Head Fisheries Museum, Basin Head Provincial Park, and East Point Lighthouse.

Linkletter Provincial Park

Linkletter Provincial Park is within close proximity to Summerside and offers a bay beach, playground, laundromat, kitchen shelter, and Wi-Fi! It’s also the closest provincial park closest to Confederation Bridge that offers camping.

Cedar Dunes Provincial Park

Cedar Dunes Provincial Park is along the North Cape Coastal Drive in the West Point Area. This scenic area is famous for its red sand beach that stretches for miles.

These campgrounds in PEI are great for families, RVing, and tenting, and most of these open over the May long weekend (some even earlier!) until the beginning of October. Take your pick from any of these beautiful campgrounds in PEI!

Seal Cove Campground

Seal Cove Campground is a family-friendly campground close to the Wood Islands Ferry offering campsites as well as cabin accommodations. 

There is beachfront access with a shallow beach, Wi-Fi, golf and mini golf, a playground, zip line, fire pits, a heated pool, and wharf access. Campers will also enjoy laundry facilities and hot showers!

Seal Cove Campground is a great location close to many beaches, fishing adventures, wineries, and lighthouses.

Lord Selkirk Campground

Featuring beautiful water and cliff views, a 9-hole golf course (Belfast Highland Greens), swimming pool, and canteen, Lord Selkirk Campground is located within the Points East Coastal Drive and is infused by a Scottish atmosphere and Celtic flavour.

While the beach isn’t suitable for swimming, it is the perfect spot to stroll with a morning coffee.

Lord Selkirk Campground also hosts the Annual Highland Games where you can witness dance competitions, bagpipe and fiddle music, and events like shot putt, log toss, and caber toss.

Somers By The Beach Campground

Somers By The Beach Campground is a spacious campground right along the water overlooking Murray Harbour. It is within close proximity to Kings Castle Provincial Park which is a fantastic place for kids to visit to enjoy storybook statues and unique play equipment.

As an ideal spot for families, this campground offers a heated swimming pool, campfires, kayaking, and beach swimming. Stroll along the beach and dig for clams or sit on the dock and watch the day go by.

Ocean Acres Cottages & Campground

Overlooking Fox River, Ocean Acres Cottages & Campgrounds is open year round, with their campground open from May – October. There is Wi-Fi, firepits, a full service licensed restaurant onsite, heated pool playground, and kayaking. 

Ocean Acres is near beautiful Murray Harbour and close to beaches, wineries, the Confederation Trail, golfing, and seal watching. This campground is also less than an hour from Charlottetown and 20 minutes to the Wood Islands Ferry.

Right next to the Confederation Trail and overlooking St. Peter’s Bay is St. Peter’s Park Campground, a family-friendly campsite operated by the community of St. Peter’s Bay!

All sites are accessible and there are washroom facilities, laundromats, Wi-Fi, two swimming pools (extra fee), and is within close proximity to restaurants, shops, and a tourist information centre.

A must-visit attraction near this campground is Greenwich National Park with an amazing floating boardwalk and views of ever-shifting sand dunes!

Whispering Pines RV Estates

With 10 acres of grassy field and pine trees, Whispering Pines RV Estates is a family oriented campground  just 3 km from PEI National Park.

    What a great variety of sites! I cycled across the island for a week staying in B&Bs but this would have been nice too. PEI is so lovely!

    I never even thought of camping in PEI when I get to finally visit, but those glamping cabins seem like a pretty nice option! Saving for later.

    That’s a huge list of campgrounds in Prince Edward Island! I have not been to this island yet, but would love to check out the Nature Space Resort & Retreat Centre. Learning a new skill like kayaking and yoga through their classes and tours is a great idea. Thank you for this detailed information of all types of camping. 🙂

    Wow I have never heard of this national park before, but I would love to go camp there. We are hoping to see more of Canada next year so maybe I’ll make it to one of those campgrounds! Thanks for all the great details.
