In reply to <a href="https://insearchofsarah.com/guide-to-tipping-at-destination-weddings/#comment-3179">Jake</a>.

Thanks for your comments Jake! It's entirely subjective. Keep in mind, the $1500 for DJ or $1000 for photographer may not be directly going towards the person providing the service. This is why tipping is suggested, but never "a must". This blog post is based off of an average of over 5000 destination wedding brides. And you're right - there is no right answer, or one complete guide. Tip if you feel it's deserved, or what you are able to. :)

I think the key here should be level of service you receive and what your prices are as you mentioned multiple times that a destination wedding means we are saving money, which is not always the case. I am very excited about my upcoming destination wedding this fall in Cancun and have a great package, but also have had to deal with a lot of things I wouldn't have to deal with in the US (or Canada). For example, a wedding planner that takes at least 2 weeks to reply to emails and is not accessible by phone, a very expensive DJ ($1500) and photographer ($1000) that are roughly the same price as the US and are independent contractors, and our all inclusive resort has a requirement to pay everything in cash upfront with tips included, and other restrictions Our package specifically includes all tips, and based on the amount we are paying and the level of customer service received, I do not plan on tipping anyone but the individual servers and bartenders (even though that is also included in our room packages, we want to recognize good service). So, I am not the biggest fan of your suggestion sheet, though I do like your narrative. It's going to be different for everyone and you shouldn't be forced to tip just because it seems customary in the US and Canada -- circumstances and experiences are different for everyone in Mexico and Caribbean.

I COMPLETELY agree with your point that wedding destination staff are providing an incredibly personalized experience for very little wages, and so they are so deserving of a tip. Great list, it's super helpful. Thanks for putting this together! The reminder to tip is an important one.
